Students had the opportunity to meet students and staff from each of the Archdiocese’s 24 high schools at these expos, discover financial aid and scholarship opportunities, and learn about how Archdiocese Catholic high schools maintain a 100% graduation rate, with 98% of graduates attending college.

Juliette Wester, AP World History teacher at Seton Hall Prep in West Orange, has been awarded the New Jersey Council for Private Education (NJ CAPE) Nonpublic School Teacher of the Year Award for 2022. She was nominated for the award in June. After a lengthy application and interview process over the summer, Wester was chosen for the award from a pool of three finalists.
High school students across the Archdiocese of Newark were recently recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®) for outstanding achievement on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) in 2021. The Archdiocese is proud to congratulate its five students who were awarded the title of National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist and the 28 students who were recognized as Commended Students.
Saint Peter’s Prep is commemorating its 150th anniversary with the installment of a seven-foot bronze statue of a young Saint Peter that is now a significant addition to the landscape of the school’s Jersey City campus. The statue is remarkable because it depicts Saint Peter as a young man, about the same age as a high school senior.

The Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children (SFIC), a non-profit organization that provides partial tuition assistance for students who attend Catholic schools within the Archdiocese of Newark, held their first Future Alumni Celebration during the second week of September. The event celebrated members of the SFIC Class of 2023 with food, beverages, a live DJ, a photo booth, and party games. A total of 40 senior students and their families from across the Archdiocese attended the event on Sept. 8.
During the last week of August, preparations for the 2022-23 school year were in full swing at the Archdiocese of Newark. The Office of Catholic Schools recently welcomed three new administrators, Father Stephen Fichter, Ph.D., the new Episcopal Vicar of Education of the Archdiocese of Newark; Barbara Dolan, newly appointed Superintendent for Catholic Schools; and Brother Christopher Hall, C.F.C., Ed.D., the new Assistant Superintendent of High Schools of the Archdiocese of Newark. Along with welcoming these new members to the administrative team, Catholic educators and school leaders from across four counties gathered to meet, collaborate, and discuss preparations for the upcoming school year.

Every year, eighth grade students across the country prepare for the next big step in their educational journeys: high school. For Catholic schools within the Archdiocese of Newark, the first step towards getting in is registering for the High School Placement Test (HSPT®) as part of the Cooperative Admissions Program (COOP). The COOP is designed to facilitate the high school admissions process for students and families using a common entrance examination.
